Weather in Milan should be sunny and sometime cloudy during the conference days, with temperatures between 26°C and 36°C, low probability of rain: however a small umbrella may be recommended either in the sunny days or in the prospective rainy hours. If you are sensitive to the air conditioning, remember to bring a jacket or other protections with you.

Opening Ceremony

August 3 — Friday Afternoon

The Opening Ceremony will take place in the Salone d’Onore (great conference hall) of the Triennale di Milano Design Museum.
The easiest way to reach the Triennale is by the Subway: stopping at CADORNA – Red/Green Lines (Linea 1 and Linea 2) the venue is at a short walking distance.

VISIT TO THE TRIENNALE DESIGN MUSEUM

In the conference bag registered participants will receive a ticket for the visit to the Triennale Design Museum, valid until January 20 2018, offered by ICGG2018.

CONFERENCE PICTURE AND WELCOMING PARTY

After the Opening Ceremony in the Salone D’Onore at 1st Floor, we will take the Conference Picture on the Grand Staircase of the Triennale di Milano. By tradition the Conference Picture is a nice and important document to keep in the ISGG records.

After the Conference Picture, the Welcoming Party will take place in the Garden of the Triennale di Milano. All the registered participants are invited. Due to the high number of participants, unregistered guests might not be admitted.

The welcoming party is available for all the registered participants.

Accompanying persons’ tour

August 4 and August 6 afternoon
August 4 Afternoon, Saturday – 13:40 to 16:20

Tour starts from the Politecnico di Milano.
“Navigli of Milan”, guided tour on boat of the Milanese canals, offering a picture of one of the most relevant eco-systems of the Po Valley; abandoned for long time, several canals have been restored and are nowadays navigable; the tour will focus on the Naviglio Grande (Grand Canal) and on the area of the Darsena (Boathhouse), recently renovated, as well as on the historical district around Porta Genova station, with its historical monument and the frantic atmosphere between design, food, and amusement.

August 6 Afternoon, Monday – 13:40 to 16:20

Tour starts from the Politecnico di Milano.
“Museo del Novecento”, guided tour in the recently renovated museum of modern art located in thee very heart of the city center, next to the Duomo di Milano (Cathedral) and Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace), and in front of the Vittorio Emanuele II crystal Gallery, walk through the historical district in the lively atmosphere of some of the most iconic places of the city, coveted by visitors from all over the world, attracted by its historical monuments and art masterpieces, as well as by several famous design and fashion top brands.

The tour is for registered accompanying persons only.

Excursion (Conference Tour)

August 5 Afternoon, Sunday – 13:40 – 20:00

Tours start from the Politecnico di Milano, after the Opening the Exhibitions “40 Year on Geometry and Graphics” and “ICGG2018 Posters on Show”, which will take place in the exhibition Room of the School of Architecture.

VISIT TO UPPER BERGAMO – Main Tour

We will reach the City of Bergamo by bus, in about 50 minutes, stopping at the cable railway station in Lower Bergamo. Then we climb up to Upper Bergamo by the cable railway or by walking along the great walls, according to the preferences of the participants. In the Upper Bergamo we will visit the city center and the Cathedral, the Colleoni Chapel and other historical locations, we will also walk through the narrow streets and the picturesque Piazze (squares) of the old town, stopping at the old Gunboat and visiting the great City Walls, included in the UNESCO heritage list, and from which you can admire Lower Bergamo, the Po Valley and the Alpin Landscape around.

Last Supper And City Center – Limited Places Available

Offered to a limited number of participants, the tour will include a visit to the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, the Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie and the Chiostro delle Rane; a walk towards the Castello Sforzesco (the city Castle) will follow, and a visit to the big courtyards of the castle, with a nice view towards Parco del Sempione; a walk to the historical district of Brera and a visit to the Brera’s Picture Galley will conclude the tour. Due to the enormous requests from all over the world, the visit to the Last Supper as a Conference Tour on Sunday afternoon is offered to a limited number of participants only, however other visits will be possible during the conference days, according to the Last Supper “extra program” listed below.

Registered participants will receive a link to a webpage where they can express their preference for this tour or for one of the dates in the “extra program”, ISGG2018 staff will do the best to satisfy the requests.

Last Supper “Extra Program” – Limited Places Available

In order to satisfy as much as possible the request for a visit to the Last Supper, we managed to offer in total about 160 places to ICGG2018 participants. As already mentioned, we will try to distribute the requests with the help of an online interview. Here the dates available.

Selected visitors will go on their own at the meeting point, which is in front of the Church of S. Maria delle Grazie, 30 minutes before the vist starts.

Last Supper “extra program” is not available for students participants.

Conference Social Dinner

August 6 Evening, Monday

The Conference Social Dinner will take place on August 6 at the restaurant “LE BANQUE”, close to Duomo di Milano and Teatro alla Scala, in the trendy and cheerful atmosphere of a former Eclectic/Baroque-like Bank Hall of the beginning of XX century. Meeting point is under the great dome of the “Vittorio Emanuele II” Crystal Gallery next t the Duomo di Milano (Cathedral), at 19:40.

The Conference Dinner is not available for students participants.

Closing Ceremony

August 7 Morning, Tuesday

The Closing Ceremony will take place in the Auditorium of the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci.
The easiest way to reach the Museum is by the Subway: stopping at S. AMBROGIO – Green Line (Linea 2), the venue is at a short walking distance.

FREE VISIT TO THE MUSEUM

During August 7 2018, all the registered participants can enjoy a free visit to the Museum. A reconstruction of some famous machines designed by Leonardo da Vinci, as well as the Laboratory of Giulio Natta, and a 3D physical model of the molecular pattern of the isotactic polypropylene are also part of the collections of the Museum.
